FAQ

Questions, answered

How ordering works, what happens to your file between upload and delivery, and how Gnomeify and Petrify turn a photo into something you can hold.

Ordering, pricing and shipping

How much does a 3D print cost?

It depends on how much material the part uses, how long it takes to print and how many you order. Upload your file and you get a full price breakdown right away, before you sign in or pay.

Gnomes and pet statues have their own pricing, covered in their sections below.

Do I need an account?

Not to get a quote. You can upload a model, check it in 3D and see the price as a guest. You only need to sign in to place an order, save projects, or use Gnomeify and Petrify.

How much is shipping?

Flat rate: $10 within Alberta and $25 to the rest of Canada. Orders of $75 or more ship free. Shipping and tax are added at checkout, so you see the full total before you pay.

Can I pick up my order?

Yes. Choose "Pickup in person (Morinville, AB)" at checkout and there is no shipping charge.

Where do you ship?

Anywhere in Canada, by Canada Post or UPS. We do not ship outside Canada right now.

How long will my order take?

Most orders are printed and shipped within 3-5 business days. Big, multi-part or full-colour prints can take longer, and shipping time depends on where you are. Every order is checked by hand before it ships.

Can I cancel, or get a refund?

Everything is made to order, so you can cancel any time before printing starts. Email us as soon as you can.

If something arrives damaged, wrong or with a print defect, email us photos within 7 days of delivery and we will make it right with a replacement, repair or refund. Change-of-mind returns are not accepted on custom items.

How 3D printing works

A quick guide to what happens between your file and the part in your hands.

How is my part actually made?

We use FDM printers. A spool of plastic filament is melted and laid down one thin layer at a time, each layer a fraction of a millimetre tall, until the whole part is built up from the bed.

Before printing, your model is "sliced" into those layers, and the printer follows that path. Then the part is taken off the plate, supports are removed, and it is checked and packed.

Will I see layer lines?

Up close, yes. Fine horizontal lines are normal for FDM printing, especially on gently curved tops. From arm length most prints look smooth, and matte filaments hide the lines best.

What are supports?

Plastic cannot be printed onto thin air, so overhangs and bridges get a temporary scaffold underneath. We remove it after printing. It can leave slightly rougher spots on the surfaces it touched.

What does "strength" or "infill" mean?

Prints are not solid plastic inside. Infill is the honeycomb-like pattern inside the walls. Light infill is great for decorations. Higher infill makes a part heavier and stronger, for brackets, mounts and things that take a load.

Which material should I choose?

The upload page lists every material and colour we have in stock right now. As a rule of thumb, PLA is best for decorations, models and indoor parts, and PETG is tougher and handles heat and outdoor use better. If you are not sure, send us a note about what the part is for.

Can you print in more than one colour?

Yes. Our printers can switch between several filaments in one print. Multi-colour prints take longer and use extra material for each colour change, so they cost more than single-colour ones.

Printing your own file

What files can I upload?

STL, OBJ, 3MF and GLB, up to 50 MB each. If you have a STEP or other CAD file, export it as STL or 3MF first.

Upload a file →
What is the print readiness check?

When you upload, we scan the model for problems that can stop it printing well, like holes or broken spots in the surface. You see the result and any issues found before you order, so there are no surprises.

Can I print several parts in one order?

Yes. Sign in and start a project to add several files, set a quantity for each, and order them together. You can save up to 3 projects of 100 MB each and come back to them later.

I do not have a 3D file. Can you still help?

Yes. We also do 3D modelling and design. Whether it is a replacement part, a prototype, a custom piece or a complex multi-part project, email hello@it3dp.ca with what you need, plus photos, sketches or measurements if you have them, and we will work out the best way to make it.

If you would rather find a ready-made design, our Browse Models page links to free model libraries. Anything you download there can be uploaded straight back here for an instant quote.

Who owns the files I upload?

You do. We only use your files to quote and print your order. Please only upload models you have the right to print.

Gnomeify

Upload a selfie and we turn you into a one-of-a-kind garden gnome, then print it.

  1. 1. Upload a selfie
One clear, well-lit photo of one face.
  2. 2. See your gnome
AI draws your gnome. Not quite right? Try again.
  3. 3. Sculpted in 3D
The drawing becomes a full 3D model in a few minutes.
  4. 4. Choose and order
Spin it around, pick size, finish and strength.
Example selfie: one face, looking at the camera, plain background, even lightExample selfie: one face, shoulders up, plain background, soft daylight
Selfies that work well: one face, looking at the camera, shoulders up, plain background, even light.
How does Gnomeify work?

You upload a selfie. AI draws you as a garden gnome, and once you like the drawing, it is sculpted into a 3D model you can spin around in the browser. Then you choose the size and finish, and we print it.

What makes a good selfie?

One face, looking at the camera, shoulders up, in even light with a plain background. Avoid sunglasses, hats, heavy shadows, group photos and filters. JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB.

Will the gnome look exactly like me?

It will look like a gnome version of you, not a photo-real copy. AI results vary from photo to photo, which is why you see the drawing and the full 3D model before you pay. If it does not look right, try another photo.

What does a gnome cost?

Making and previewing your gnome is free. The printed price depends on the size (6 in or 8 in tall), single colour or full colour, and how many you order, and it shows before checkout. Ordering several saves money: 10% off 3 or more, 15% off 6 or more.

How many gnomes can I make?

Up to 10 a day per account. Each one uses paid AI services, so the daily limit keeps it free to try.

Can I just buy the 3D file?

Yes. Download your gnome as a GLB file for $5 and print it yourself or use it in other 3D apps.

Petrify

Turn a photo of your pet into a 3D statue, with an optional base and their name on the front.

  1. 1. Upload your pet
Add a photo and their name.
  2. 2. We sculpt it
Your pet is cut out of the photo and sculpted in 3D.
  3. 3. Pick a finish
Stone look or full colour, from every angle.
  4. 4. Coloured eyes
Optional: tap each eye to give it colour.
  5. 5. Base and words
Choose a base, a font and up to two lines.
How does Petrify work?

Upload a photo of your pet. We separate your pet from the background and show you the cut-out first, so you can check it before anything is sculpted. Then AI sculpts a 3D statue you can turn and zoom in the browser, and you choose the finish, base and words before ordering.

Try Petrify →
What makes a good pet photo?

The whole pet in frame from ears to paws, sitting if you can, taken at their eye level in daylight. Avoid two pets in one photo, a person holding them, blurry or dark photos, and close-ups of just the face. JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB.

What is the difference between stone look and full colour?

Stone look prints the statue in one filament, like carved stone, marble or metal. You can add coloured eyes to a stone-look statue. Full colour uses up to 4 filaments matched to your pet. It takes much longer to print, so it costs more.

What bases and lettering can I choose?

Plinth, round, hexagon, natural rock, or a cat or dog bed for pets lying down. Bases are printed in one solid filament. Add up to two lines of text, like a name and years, in one of four fonts, either the same colour as the base or in a contrast colour. The viewer warns you if the letters are too small to print well.

What does a pet statue cost?

Stone-look statues come in 4 in, 6 in or 8 in tall and start at $23 for the statue alone, or $35 with a base. Full colour, coloured eyes and contrast lettering add to the price, and the total updates in the viewer as you choose.

What if the statue does not look right?

Each photo gets one free "Sculpt again". If it is still off, a different photo usually helps the most: try a clearer, seated, full-body shot. AI results vary, so check the statue from every angle before ordering.

How many statues can I make?

Up to 10 a day per account, because each one uses paid AI services. Previewing is free and you only pay when you order.

Can I print the statue myself?

Yes. For $5 you get the print files: a ready-to-slice 3MF, STL files for each part, and the 3D model as a GLB.

Your photos and privacy

What happens to the photos I upload?

Your photos are stored privately and used to make the gnome or statue you asked for. To make it, the photo is processed by third-party AI services, as described in our Privacy Policy, which also explains how long files are kept.

Privacy Policy →
Can I upload a photo of someone else?

Only if you have their permission. You confirm this before every upload. For a gift, ask first, or use a photo they have already shared with you for that purpose.

Can I have my photos deleted?

Yes. Email hello@it3dp.ca to ask for your photos and generated files to be deleted. A few order records have to be kept for tax and legal reasons, and the Privacy Policy explains which.
